The municipality of Nijmegen wanted to use its data more efficiently. In three months, two Student Consultant consultants drew up a new data strategy, based on the data strategies of other municipalities and provinces, and translated it into a concrete work programme.

Working more efficiently with data

The municipality of Nijmegen wanted to use data more efficiently. From April to July 2023, two Student Consultant consultants drew up a new data strategy.

A data strategy has to align with national decisions and legislation on data, while also fitting the organisation itself. And a strategy has to be workable: without concrete steps, it stays on paper.

Learning from other municipalities

  1. Desk researchApril 2023First, as many data strategies as possible from other municipalities and provinces were collected, alongside national decisions and legislation on data.
  2. Compare and selectThe strategies were placed side by side. Their strengths and weaknesses were filtered out, and the consultants examined which aspects Nijmegen could use.
  3. Work programmeUntil July 2023The points in the data strategy were prioritised and a step-by-step plan was drawn up for each, so the strategy can actually be implemented.
