Growth calls for structure
GDB Logistics has grown strongly in recent years. Processes were carried out daily by experienced employees, but had not yet been documented in a structured way everywhere. As a result, new employees often depended on verbal explanations and intensive guidance.
To keep growth manageable, there was a need for more overview, uniformity and transferability. GDB Logistics brought in Student Consultant to map the logistics processes clearly and document them in a practical way.
Much of the process knowledge sat in employees' heads. That worked as long as experienced colleagues were available to explain things, but it made knowledge transfer vulnerable. Dependencies between departments were not always visible either: if one process step was delayed or information was missing, the impact on other departments was not always immediately clear.
The challenge was therefore not only to describe processes, but above all to make knowledge more accessible to the organisation. For new employees, the old situation meant that onboarding required a lot of guidance.
How do you document day-to-day work so that employees understand processes faster, carry them out more uniformly and new colleagues can be onboarded more easily?
